Tree Pruning in North Texas
Tree pruning aims to improve a tree's health and structure rather than just its size.
Tree Pruning, done with precision
Tree pruning aims to improve a tree's health and structure rather than just its size. We remove dead and diseased wood, crossing or rubbing branches, weak or narrow-angled forks and water sprouts, and shape young trees so they develop a strong frame. Crape myrtles often get hacked back hard each winter, a habit called crape murder, which weakens them and spoils their natural form; we prune them to thin, remove crossing wood and lift lower branches instead. Good pruning cuts are made just outside the branch collar, with no stubs. It is best done in the dormant season for many species, though dead wood can be removed any time. We do not diagnose tree diseases, and if a tree looks seriously unhealthy we suggest a certified arborist.

Common questions about tree pruning
Is topping crape myrtles a good idea?
No. It produces weak growth and ruins their shape. We prune selectively to keep them healthy and attractive.
When is the best time to prune?
Late winter for many trees. Dead or hazardous branches can come out anytime.
Are you arborists?
No. We are a landscape and exterior contractor who does tree trimming, removal and cleanup. For disease diagnosis or very large or hazardous trees, we may refer you to a specialist.
Do you work near power lines?
We assess the situation, but work near energized lines is generally handled by the utility or a qualified specialist. We will tell you if that applies.
