Stump Grinding, done with precision
After a tree comes down, the stump remains as a trip hazard, a mower obstacle and a home for pests. Stump grinding uses a machine with a rotating cutting wheel to chew the stump into wood chips well below ground level, typically several inches or more. We mark and check the area for visible irrigation heads and obvious lines first, and we keep an eye out for rock, which can limit depth in Hood County ground. The chips fill the hole and can be left as mulch, used elsewhere or hauled off, and the area can then be filled with soil and seeded or sodded. Grinding does not remove every root, and large surface roots may need extra passes. Access matters: we need a path wide enough for the grinder.

Common questions about stump grinding
How deep do you grind?
Usually several inches below grade, enough to plant grass or a new bed. Deeper grinding for a replanted tree is available.
Will the roots die and rot?
Remaining roots slowly decay. Some trees, like cedar elm, may sucker from roots and need follow-up attention.
Are you arborists?
No. We are a landscape and exterior contractor who does tree trimming, removal and cleanup. For disease diagnosis or very large or hazardous trees, we may refer you to a specialist.
Do you work near power lines?
We assess the situation, but work near energized lines is generally handled by the utility or a qualified specialist. We will tell you if that applies.
