Austin Limestone Borders, done with precision
Austin limestone is the cream-and-tan cut stone common across Central Texas, and it makes a durable, natural-looking bed border. We set the stones in a prepared trench on a compacted base so they sit level and do not tip as the clay underneath moves. Stones are stacked one or two high depending on the design, with joints tight and the curve smooth. The color blends well with most brick and stucco and ages gracefully. Limestone is heavy and varies in color and shape from piece to piece, so some variation is part of the look. It holds back mulch and rock well but is not a retaining wall for steep slopes, and we won't treat it like one.

Common questions about austin limestone borders
Is Austin limestone a retaining wall?
Not for steep grade changes. It works as a low border or short step-up, and taller walls need a different design.
Does it stain or fade?
It weathers and may darken slightly with moisture, which is part of its natural character.
